Life in Afghanistan

I met Tegan Godfrey in Shreveport LA. He was working at the venue we played at called The Collective. I asked him for ride to the hotel and I noticed his military uniform in the back of his car. We started talking about his life in the Air Force as an engineer and the work he’s doing in Afghanistan. As an engineer, he’s sent in to fix the the city…to redo plumbing and rebuild areas that have been destroyed. I never thought about that part of the war and that there are soldiers that handle those things on our side. Although he’s not on the front lines, he’s still in danger at all times, living in an area that is constantly under attack. Tegan ended up spending the whole day showing us around Shreveport and giving us a tour of the Air Force base. It was a very special day on our summer tour, one I’ll never forget. Tegan is now a friend of mine and he drove down to our Dallas show last week. He shared a poem he wrote that was inspired by the Rooney song “Stars and Stripes.” Here is his poem:
Built up by intelligent design
Thought up by brilliant minds
Constructed tough brick by brick
But labored on by old an sick
The tragedies this world hides
are awful and horrific rides
Twisting through tremendous grim
With scornful hate and tumescent sin
So let us unite and unveil
Lets tip the weight of evil scale
Break the bounds of villainous ways
and bring about the peaceful days

Tour Blog – Hyannis, MA

Last night was the final night of tour with Black Gold and The Young Veins. It was a great show and while I’ll be sad to not see them live almost every night, it was a great time and I wish them much success!
We played our second show with Hanson tonight, and it was a pretty cool experience. It was a ‘concert in the round’ deal where the stage slowly rotated during the show. It was such a high energy crowd and just great to watch. The venue was selling merch, so I got a bit of a break to enjoy both Rooney and Hanson. To tell you a little bit about how the merch booth will be different during the Hanson gigs, the merch will be priced:
Hoodies: $35, $45
Tees, Tanks, Totes: $25
Eureka CDs: $15
Eureka Vinyls: $20
Wild One, Bracelet: $5
About meet and greets – there won’t be any formal meet and greets, but the band will do their best to either hang out right after their set for a few minutes, or after Hanson’s set.
Some people have been wondering what the setlists will be like. There is no setlist voting for the Hanson shows as the sets are short (approximately 40 minutes). However, there are still a few headlining shows that you can vote for (and August 15 in Toledo was just added).
We’re now driving to Cohasset for a gig that’s similar to tonight. After that, it’s a sold out show in Philadelphia which everyone is really psyched for.
