New Bands

So I figure we need a thread to tell each other about new bands we've discovered. Just be sure to put some characteristics or similar sounding bands along with your suggestions as people are hardly gonna check out, "ZOMG i love The Such n Such band, check em out lol"

To get the ball rolling, I would highly recommend The Holidays to anyone who likes Rooney. They're an indie/pop/rock band from Sydney who have only been together for a year or so.

Aw, The Feeling are catchy.

I remember posting in a thread like this ages ago on the old forum talking about MCR being a newish band, hahah.

And they're not new, but everyone should check out GOGOL BORDELLO.

Re: Love of Diagrams

I only skimmed this thread, so I'm not sure if they've been said yet, but I doubt it. They're not new at all, but they're just starting to get recognition over here the past couple years. Australian trio with a very post-punk sound reminiscent of Sleater-Kinney, The Au Pairs, Public Image Ltd., Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sonic Youth, and such.

and how could you forget 'eddie's gun' by the kooks, easily their coolest song.
Anyway, get into the 'pigeon detectives' if you like bands including arctic monkeys, the fratellis, sex pistols, hot hot heat etc

i listened the pigeon detectives the other day on the UK iTunes and they are sooooo good but sadly they don't sell their album on American iTunes!!!

Re: The Kooks

I don't know how new these guys are, I know they're huge in Europe (a friend of mine in Holland sent me the cd last summer) but I love The Kooks.

I don't know how to describe them other than they're very... British. iTunes describes them as a "more entergetic Thrills" and "a less harsh Arctic Monkeys" I dunno about that but whatever.
My fave tracks are :
"Naive"
"She moves in her own way"
"ooh la"

Re: One band really stands out for me...

Dandy Warhols. They're not new, they've been around for a long time, but a lot of people that I've talked to only know them from The OC. I guess they performed or had a song in an episode, I'm not sure (I never really watched the show). But they're really, really good. If I were to recommend songs to listen to by them I'd suggest:

I Am Sound
Everyone Is Totally Insane
Heavenly
Smoke It
Cool Scene
Big Indian

There are many other good ones, but the most recognizable are "We Used To Be Friends" and "Bohemian Like You" (the instrumental part of this song is actually used in a lot of tv shows). They cover a huge range of genres with their music, but they mainly do rock. Plus, they're just plain old really nice folks. Good people, those Dandys.

Re: yayy

I'm From Barcelona

They're a 29 piece band from Sweden, so think along the lines of Broken Social Scene or The Polyphonic Spree. Although the music doesn't really sound like either. I don't even know who to compare them to, they're pretty unique.

And also, Tokyo Police Club.

They're from Toronto and are usually labeled as a mix between The Strokes and Bloc Party. Extremely good.
