stimulus check

I am thinking about using my stimulus check to fly somewhere and see some rooney. where should i go?

(i was going to use it on tuition, but now they aren't even giving loans away in my state for school next year due to the credit crunch. so yes, i get to drop out of grad school)

Great minds think alike, I tell you. I'm flying down to SoCal (Aneheim, to be exact). How about you?

Good luck with the Kenny Loggins thing. I hear he's a great kisser. A little too much tongue, though.

I quit when I moved.

I did work both sides though. D-Land and DCA.

And that Where's My Stimulus Check? thing didn't work for me.

OR, you could come to NYC, go to the show on June 15th, and stay for the show at the Stone Pony in New Jersey.

That way, you get to see two shows, plus NYC!

It's an urban legend.

http://www.sptimes.com/News/040900/SouthPinellas/These_urban_myths_nee.shtml

It's not true. It's not anybody's story to tell because it didn't happen.
The "War Room" of which you speak with all the TV's doesn't exist. Believe it or not there is not an incredible network of cameras around the park. The individual rides have their own monitoring system that is not connected to the "grid." Disney still monitors security in the old fashioned way. There are uniformed security guards and countless security staffers dressed as tourists. If you didn't notice the small walkie talkie they carry you wouldn't notice them except that most of them are alone.

lovelikesonnets post reminded me a story I heard about 8 years ago.

I was at training for my firm and we stayed at Disney. We were out in Epcot and one of the senior partners told us a story about something that happened to good friends of his about a decade prior. His friends two children were on a merry-go-round. When the ride ended, only one came off. The parents immediately started freaking and within minutes Disney security had them underground and looking at cameras. I don't know which park in which this occurred, but the park only had two entrance/exit points, so they were able to focus the parents on those two areas. The security staff did a great job at coaching the parents: "look only at the eyes - don't worry about hair or clothing". Sure enough, within a couple more minutes, they saw their child leaving the park. Apparently these sickos take the kids into bathrooms and will change the clothes, maybe cut hair, use hats, whatever....scary! What is great is that the kid was rescued and Disney was so well prepared to deal with the situation.

that story sounds like it has a few holes in it. i don't doubt that something similar could happen. but i doubt it would happen like that.

I kinda agree with you.

Disneyland has no underground tunnels, only DisneyWorld does. Well it has "underground" places but none that go under the park or anything.

If you report that your kid has been kidnapped they have what they call a "Park Lockdown" meaning they pretty much don't let anyone leave unless security is sure that is not the kid they're looking for.

When I worked there I remember hearing about it but it all happened so fast that we didn't really know what was going on. I was in stores on the West Side so it didn't concern me much anyways.

I think she was talking about Disneyworld.

The first hole in the story is the whole carousel thing. The carousel basically has a gate and flowers around it. It would take a bit of effort to swipe a kid off of it while it's moving. The only way to get up close is to go through the entrance where the employee is. I just don't understand how the person took the child so easily from the ride with no one noticing.

Keep in mind that the story happened almost 20 years ago. Rock Mommy said she heard it about 8 years ago and at that point the story was already about 10 years old. I'm sure Disney has had always had good security, but I'm sure it's a great deal more beefed up now than it was 20 years ago, including ride layout for maximum security/safety of children.

Re: Scary story with a happy ending

lovelikesonnets post reminded me a story I heard about 8 years ago.

If they have one is southern california...go to that one. and go to disneyland while you're in the area.

that's what i'd do (minus the rooney concert though.)

Disneyland is no longer magical once you've worked there for 3 years.

Once you take one step backstage all magic goes out the window.

Through much luck... I've been backstage at Disney's Hollywood Studios twice and at Epcot once. It's really cool! It makes me appreciate how much work is done to the "onstage" area to keep the magic alive. It was really interesting because its just so... plain. haha.

one of my exes plays gaston at disneyworld and i've made him promise that if i ever come visit i'll be able to go through all the underground tunnels and stuff. i've never been to disneyland or disneyworld and i think it would be rad to see it from the ground up.

It really is.

But I will admit the most interesting thing for me was when I would come before park opening and see the team that makes Disneyland "sparkle".

They would polish all the handles and door knobs, squeege the benches and wash every floor and trash can.

It makes you appreciate the little things. Sure you might not notice when you visit the park but you would notice if they ddn't do it.

i never really felt like disneyland was "magical"....probably because i was 23 the first time i went there.

i do love the place though!

I'm more partial to DCA now.

But that's probably just because there are less crowds.

I like DCA....especially California Screamin' But Disneyland has a much better atmosphere (although the crowds can suck pretty bad.)

I always think a 3 hour wait for Splash or a 30 minute wait for Grizzly.

And DCA has the alcohol so it tends to draw "older" crowds with less kids and that always makes me happy.

I thought the magic dies after you interact with your first guest.

At that point you still got the rose colored glasses on so you pay no mind.

After a few weeks though you realize most of the guests check their brains at the gates.
